How to choose a toran for your main door
A toran is the first thing guests see, so it is worth getting the size and style right. This guide covers measuring, choosing a style for the occasion, hanging it without damaging the frame, and storing it for next year.

Measure the door frame first
Measure the width of the door frame from the outer edge on one side to the outer edge on the other, not just the door itself. A toran usually looks best when it covers the full width of the frame or stops a little short of it. Note the height of the frame too, so the toran does not touch the door when it opens.
- Single main door: one toran across the top, with or without side latkans.
- Double door: measure the full frame across both doors and centre the toran.
- Pooja room door: a shorter, lighter toran or a pair of hangings looks neater.
- Balcony or window: lightweight floral or gota torans work better than heavy kundan.

Toran and vastu
Many families hang a toran at the main entrance as a traditional welcome and a sign of good fortune, often choosing mango leaves, marigolds or a Shubh Labh design. If you follow vastu, a common practice is to keep the main door toran clean and replace any piece that is broken or faded. Follow your own family's customs for placement and timing.
Hanging it safely
Two small nails or adhesive hooks at the top corners of the frame are enough for most torans. For heavier kundan pieces, use screws or strong hooks rather than tape. Hang side latkans with their own hooks so they do not pull on the main toran.
Storing it for next year
Dust it gently, fold it loosely with tissue paper between the layers, and store it flat in a box away from damp. Do not hang it in direct rain, and keep fabric flowers away from strong sun for long periods so the colours stay bright.

Questions
What size toran do I need for my main door?
Measure the door frame from outer edge to outer edge. Pick a toran that covers that width or stops slightly short of it. Tell us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the fit.
Can I use a toran outdoors?
Kundan, metal and gota torans handle an outdoor door better than soft fabric flowers. Keep any toran away from direct rain.
Can you make a toran in a custom size or colour?
Many of our torans can be made longer, shorter or in your colours. Send your door measurement and a photo on WhatsApp.
